Fossil-free ski resort

In winter 2024, we launched a project to test whether it is possible to run a ski resort completely fossil-free, while taking the next step in electrification. The first to lead and develop this pilot project is Hammarbybacken, our facility in Stockholm, Sweden.

Electrified operations at Hammarbybacken

The development is moving forward and our goal and ambition is that Hammarbybacken will be electrified during the 2024/25 season.

The aim of the project

Our goal with the project is to show that a transition to a completely fossil-free ski resort operation is possible. It will also help us identify challenges in our transition so that we can make the right decisions going forward for our entire business. We also hope that it will inspire more companies to dare to test new initiatives for change.

Replacing the entire vehicle fleet

In practical terms, this means that our entire fleet of vehicles in Hammarbybacken will be replaced, i.e. six vehicles that will now be powered by electricity.

Charging is done via a brand new Power Unit battery, PU500, which is a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) provided by Volvo Energy and Volvo CE. The service provider for Volvo's products is Swecon Anläggningsmaskiner AB.

To enable the pilot project, a new electricity contract has also been signed for all operations: 100% renewable electricity and water (Vattenfall and Ellevio).
