Preparing your accommodation for letting

Hallway

It is a good idea to install kick guards at the front door to avoid dirty exterior walls. Also, don't forget to check the expiry date of your fire extinguisher and that it fulfils fire safety regulations. 

Accessories to have

• Hooks/racks/storage - in proportion to the number of beds
• Entrance mat - in all toilets/bathrooms
• Thermometer - indoor and outdoor
• Fire extinguisher 6 or 9 litres - visibly placed

For those with their own entrance or balcony/terrace

• Pickaxe broom
• Snow shovel

Bathroom

For your guests to be able to shower and cook, it is important that you ensure that the water heater has the capacity for the number of guests.

All surfaces should be tight and without visible damage, such as cracks or damaged joints. 

Accessories to be provided 

• Floor scraper with handle - in each shower
• WC brush - in all toilets

For those with saunas

• Thermometer, bucket scoop

Living room

Seating in the form of a sofa and armchairs needs to be provided for all regular beds.

Also bear in mind that

• Guests move the furniture around so put on furniture pads to protect your floors.
• There should be a ceiling light and pleasant general lighting.
• At least a 32’ TV with a basic programme - Chromecast and Apple TV are not acceptable.

For those with a fireplace/stove

• Equipment to ash such as ash bucket, shovel, broom

Kitchen and dining area

The kitchen/dining area of the accommodation must have at least the same number of seats as the number of beds in the accommodation (including any extra beds). 

Bear in mind that

• Guests will move the furniture around, so put on furniture pads to protect your floors.
• There is a ceiling and table lamp.
• The fridge, freezer, hob, oven and dishwasher should have a capacity adapted to the number of beds. 

Equipment list

Based on the number of beds available in your accommodation, we have created a kitchen equipment list. 

SkiStar uses Öje products in the event that we need to replace something in your accommodation. You also have the option of buying ready-made packages of household utensils from them. 

Bedrooms

All bedrooms should be closable with a door or sliding wall. Any sleeping alcove should be a separate space where there is room to stay outside the bed. 

Duvets, pillows and bed mattresses

SkiStar provides and washes pillows, duvets and mattress covers for all beds, including extra beds.

All existing textiles must be removed. 

Mattresses and fall protection

You must make sure that the mattresses are fresh. 

Tip!

A spring mattress is more durable than a polyester mattress. 

Bunk beds should have fall protection of at least 17 cm above the edge of the mattress. 

Accessories that should be provided

• Roller blind or similar - for all bedroom windows
• Clothes storage - adapted to the number of beds
• Bedside lamps - for all beds

Sofa bed  

Counts as an extra bed only in exceptional cases, with special authorisation from SkiStar. 

Outdoors

Here are some tips on what to consider for the outdoor environment. Don't forget to set up outdoor and indoor thermometers. 

Keep in mind that 

• Guests need somewhere to store their skis. We recommend an outside ski storage room if possible.
• Outdoor furniture can help prevent guests from taking chairs out of the accommodation.
• Snow fences are the responsibility of the owner to install in places where there is a high risk of collapse.
• The grounds should be cleaned annually and cleared of undergrowth.

There must be

• Outdoor lighting
• Facade number - clearly visible and preferably illuminated
• If parking - the place should be signposted

We need a total of 6 keys for the accommodation and 4 keys for any ski storage.

Please consult our property department before installation, as not all makes are suitable for rental properties.

Go room by room and make sure everything is in order.

Safety and security

• Child gates to any stairs.
• Window locks at >2 metres drop height.
• Approved electrical and plumbing installations, ventilation systems and any fireplaces.
• The electrical centre must be correctly labelled.
• Windows and patio doors must be able to be opened for ventilation in hot weather.
• Pets are not allowed in the accommodation (unless it is rented out as pet-friendly).
• Smoking is not allowed in the accommodation. 

Remember to 

Change the batteries in the smoke alarms and remote controls before each season.

Private belongings

Each accommodation is unique, but should not be decorated with personal items and photos. Avoid trinkets, textiles and carpets that can collect dust or break. 

• Personal belongings are stored at the owner's risk and in a locked storage area.
• Food items must also be removed from the kitchen cupboards. 

SkiStar is not responsible for private belongings. 

Review the cleaning equipment, preferably in a structured cleaning cabinet. Vacuum cleaners of well-known brands should be available with S-bags, fill vacuum cleaner bags.

Cleaning materials

Washing-up and scouring agents

SkiStar provides a basic range of washing-up liquid and scouring powder and replenishes during the season. 

Accessories to be provided

• Vacuum cleaner
• Scrubbing bucket with mop - in all toilets
• Dustpan and shovel - thermometer, bucket, scoop
• If stovetop - cleaning and scraping

Guests expect a TV with standard/basic channels to be available. Wireless internet is highly recommended where possible.

Please note that if you have any special lighting that requires something other than a standard incandescent/led bulb - have an extra light source.
